ART COLOGNE 2025

Mizoe Art Gallery will be exhibiting at ART COLOGNE 2025!
ART COLOGNE is the world’s oldest and one of the most influential fairs for contemporary art.
For this occasion, Mizoe Art Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by Yoshio Yoshimura.
Yoshimura first gained critical recognition after receiving the Grand Prize at the Yamaguchi Prefectural Art Exhibition in 2007, an achievement that propelled him into the contemporary art spotlight. At the height of growing expectations for his future, he passed away unexpectedly at the age of 63.
The national touring exhibition “Yoshio Yoshimura: Beyond Hyper-realism”, which began at the Tokyo Station Gallery in 2018, was initially scheduled to tour four venues but was extended to eleven due to overwhelming acclaim, achieving an unprecedented long run that deeply resonated with audiences nationwide. Terms such as realism, meticulous drawing, superrealism, nor technical virtuosity can fully capture the essence of Yoshimura’s art.
In addition to his representative colored-pencil Flower series and the Newspaper and Self-Portrait series, this exhibition will also feature earlier works from the ROAD and SCENE series, tracing the development of his artistic career.
As a devoted user of German-made Faber-Castell colored pencils, Yoshimura had always dreamed of exhibiting in Germany.
In fulfillment of his wish, we are honored to present his works in Germany for the first time. His monumental colored pencil piece “Perspectives from an Unknown World", extending over ten meters in length, will undoubtedly move viewers with its scale and intensity.
