1902-1993
Born in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture
Founding member of Shinseisaku-kyokai

1902 Born in Takamatsu City, Kagawa prefecture.
1922 Studied Western Painting under Takeji Fujishima at Tokyo School of Fine Arts (the current Tokyo University of the Arts). Later dropped out of same school.
1926 First selection into Teiten (Imperial Fine Arts Academy Exhibition) with the painting “Female Figure”.
1936 Formed the Shin-seisaku-ha Association with Ryohei Koiso, Kazu Wakita and others.
1938 Went to France where he learned from Henri Matisse.
1940 Outbreak of World War II. Returned to Japan on the Hakusan-Maru, the last evacuation ship.
1944 Exhibited the war painting “Train Bound For ○○” at the Army Art Exhibition.
After the war, he started the Denenchofu Pure Art Laboratory, mentoring the next generation.
1950 Designed the famous red on white wrapping paper “Hana Hiraku (into bloom)” for Mitsukoshi Department store.
1951 Finished the mural “Freedom” at Ueno station. Received the second Mainichi Art Award for the murals “Democracy” at the Keio University Student Hall, and “Birth of Love” at the Nagoya Maruei Hotel Hall.
1955 Moved to New York City.
1980 Received the Order of the Sacred Treasure.
1993 Received the 34th Mainichi Art Award for the “90th Anniversary Genichiro Inokuma Exhibition”. Passed away the same year at the age of 90.
