Teppei Ujiyama

1910 Born on September 3, in Mameda-cho, Hita City, Oita Prefecture,
1923 Entered Hita Junior High School in Hita, Oita Prefecture, and studied drawing under Munenosuke Shono, a student of Chu Asai.
1929 Entered Oita Prefectural Hita Craft School, where he learned the techniques of maki-e lacquerware.
1930 Joined Hita Lacquer Ware Co., Ltd. and worked in the design department of lacquer and woodworking until 1934.
1931 He was accapted for the first time at the third exhibition of the First Art Association (Tokyo Prefectural Museum of Art) for his woodblock print “Rural Stop” .                
1939 Exhibited his first oil paintings “Winter Mountain” and “Mountainside” at the 14th Exhibition of the National Art Association.             
1943 After meeting Shigetaro Fukuhara, he switched to oil painting.
1964 From October to March of the next year, he traveled around Iran, Syria, Egypt, and Europe.             
1970 Published a collection of essays entitled “Thoughts on Beauty” (Ichibankan Gallery).
1971 Awarded the 12th Mainichi Art Award in the Fine Arts Division.
1973 Received the 32nd West Japan Culture Award.
1986 Passed away on June 18.
