I knew a collection of Gyoji Nomiyama by accident. Fate meant us to meet it.There was full of dreams and hopes of the painter and the path he has walked. Paintings travel as a painter does. It leaves parent and travels from people to people around the world.
We will exhibit 45 paintings including oil and watercolor created during the period from the 1940s to the 90s including the time soon after the war and the Paris period. Please look at the world Gyoji, a painter who turns 100 this year.
Gyoji Nomiyama
Born in 1920, in Honami village(Izuka city), Fukuoka prefecture. 1943 Graduated from the Oil Painting department at Tokyo University of the Arts. Conscription, sent to Manchuria. 52-64 Stayed in France. 58 The second Yasui Prize. 68 The assistant professor at Tokyo University of the Arts (a professor from 72 to 81). 92 The 42nd the Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts. 94 The 1st Fukuoka Prefecture Culture Awards. 96 Mainichi Art Award. 2000 Person for Cultural Merits. 2014 The Order of Culture.
The gallery is open as usual during the exhibition. In order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 infection, we regularly ventilate inside of the gallery. In addition, visitors are in order to follow the rules below to come in.
