The More Incomprehensible, the More Interesting!
What is Abstract Painting? Exhibition
February 20th (Sat) March 7th (Sun), 2021
10:00am-6:00pm (Open every day during the event)
Venue: MIZOE ART GALLERY FUKUOKA
"People often asked whether my painting is figurative or abstract.
I only paint what my eyes see. To paint is to pull out the shape lurking behind visible things onto the surface of artwork" This is what Gyoji Nomiyama said who is famous for abstract paintings. Actually, artworks that we think abstract painting are often shapes of objects painted through the filter of the artist's eyes.
Then what makes it an abstract painting? "Cool" "Modern" "Not understandable" People get a variety of feelings from abstract artworks.
By exhibiting abstract artworks from our collection, we want you to consider what artists want to express and to feel the merriment of appreciating art. (Mizoe Art Gallery, Kazunobu Abe)
