On 9th January this year, the next day after the second state of emergency was announced, I visited the first day of Nomiyama Gyoji: Exhibition Celebrating His 100th Birthday at Nihombashi Takashimaya. At the moment I stepped in, I was overwhelmed by the energy of the artworks, overflowing vitality, as well as the wave of colors and brushstrokes. It is surprising that most of them were painted after the year 2000, in recent years. Every time I visited his studio after that, he faced a new canvas every time by himself. His creative urge is growing rather than declining.
One-fifth of the 21st century has passed. In a time hit by unprecedented disaster, Gyoji Nomiyama shows us a ray of hope. In this exhibition, we display approximately 35 artworks including large works focusing on his works after 2000.

The Yasui Prize. 68-81 Provided teaching at Tokyo University of the Arts.The Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts. Fukuoka Prefecture Culture Awards. Mainichi Art Award. Person for Cultural Merits. 2014 The Order of Culture.
