During his stay in New York City from 2004 to 2005, while on a train running through the suburbs, Myung Sik Kim looked out the window and saw rows of houses resembling faces of people he had seen in Soho. He decided to paint this, and thus, began the series entitled “East Side Story”.
The colorful houses lined up, huddling closely together represent people of all different races living happily amongst one another, as well as the four seasons seen in the abundant nature of Yongin, A city near Seoul where Kim now resides. Moreover, "East" symbolizes the hope of the rising sun, and these works embody Kim’s prayer for peace.
For Myung Sik Kim, who is based in Seoul and New York, and works internationally, this will be his first solo exhibition in Japan in five years, the last being in 2019. Please come and see it.
