“NO-360 Optical Perspective Series 55”
Oil and resin on canvas 51.29×63.77in 2007

In the late 1960s, Yasuhide Moriyama was a central member of "Shudan Kumo," an anti-art collective formed in Kitakyushu that staged a series of provocative performances. Moriyama withdrew from the group's activities in 1973, having declared that he would “go back to being a painter.” After fifteen years of silence, he resumed his painting practice. Beginning with a materially focused, monochromatic silver series, his work gradually transitioned toward compositions with stronger pictorial elements.
This exhibition presents approximately thirty works from Moriyama’s richly colored and dynamic series that has been produced since 2003, including the "Optical Perspective", "At the Water's Edge", and "Window" series. What, for Moriyama, was an “ordinary painting”?
We warmly invite you to visit the exhibition.
