Perspective - Daisuke TESHIMA Exhibition

Teshima Daisuke’s works reflect contemporary Japanese culture and society while drawing on traditional Japanese Buddhist sculpture techniques. With a strong commitment to working by hand, Teshima creates distinctive forms and expressions from the traces of actions and processes carved into blocks of wood. His works offer a warm yet somehow cool and quietly observant gaze upon the various facets of contemporary society.
This “gaze” is, in a sense, the artist’s own. Images emerge from his encounters with the people, objects, and events of everyday life, gradually taking shape as works of art. As we encounter these figures, we may find ourselves feeling a sense of familiarity or empathy.
This exhibition marks Teshima’s first solo exhibition at Mizoe Art Gallery.
