Hideo Noda

Born in Santa Clara, California in 1908. In 1911, he was sent to live with his uncle in Kumamoto, his parents' hometown. Graduating from Kumamoto Prefectural Junior High School in 1926 he then moved to the U.S. on his own. He entered California Fine Arts in 1929 and in 1931, he met Diego Rivera. He later moved to the Woodstock Art Village in New York. In 1934, “Street Scene” was acquired by the Whitney Museum of American Art. He returned to Japan in 1937 after visiting Paris, Rome, and other cities. in 1938, he moved to Genichiro Inokuma's house in Denenchofu, Tokyo while the owner was away. Durring his stay by Lake Nojiri in Nagano Prefecture, he became ill and was hospitalized. He passed away due to a brain tumor in 1939.
