Kokuta Suda

Born in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. His real name was Katsusaburo.
He studied Western-style painting almost entirely independently and was accepted for the 23rd Kofukai Exhibition in 1935. In 1949, he resigned from the Kofukai and joined the Kokuga-kai, and in 1959, he was nominated as a member of the Kokuga-kai.
He exhibited his works at the Contemporary Art Exhibition of Japan and the Japan International Art Exhibition, as well as numerous overseas exhibitions.
He was interested in both figurative and abstract art, and worked on illustrations for newspapers and magazines, and even did research of child art. After the war, he lived in Nishinomiya and taught at elementary and junior high schools and art classes in the city, as well as serving as the president of the Nishinomiya Art Association.
He has received numerous awards, including the Nishinomiya Citizens' Cultural Award in 1962, the Hyogo Prefecture Cultural Award in 1971, and the Osaka Art Award in 1977.
