Yoshio Yoshimura
1950 Born in Bofu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan.
1971 Graduated from Yamaguchi College of Art.
1978 Received the Honorable Mention Prize at Shell Art Award (Tokyo Central Museum
of Art, etc.).
Held first solo exhibition at a gallery in Ginza, Tokyo.
1979 Graduated from Sokei Academy of Fine Art & Design (Tokyo).
Received the Argas Award at the British International Print Biennale (Bradford City Art Galleries and Museums Cartwright Hall, Bradford, UK).
1980 Became a part-time lecturer at a School of Design in Hiroshima.
1982 Received the Merit Award at the Miami International Print Biennale (Miami
Metropolitan Museum of Art Center, Florida, USA).
1983 Received the Encouragement Prize at the Yamaguchi Prefectural Art and Culture
Award (Yamaguchi).
1984 Received the Wasaku Kobayashi Award (Yamaguchi).
1985 Moved to Tokuchi, Yamaguchi prefecture.
1988 Held a solo exhibition at Sogo Department Store in Hiroshima.
1991 “Yoshio Yoshimura Exhibition -Self Portraits of 730 days” held at Shimonoseki
City Art Museum (Yamaguchi).
1998 Became a part-time lecturer at Yamaguchi College of Arts (Yamaguchi).
2000 Received the Special Prize at the Sesshu Grand Prix Masuda Art Awards.
2005 Exhibited at China International Gallery Exposition (Beijing, China).
100th solo exhibition held in September, 2005 in Yamaguchi.
2007 Received the Grand Prize at Yamaguchi Prefectural Art Awards (Yamaguchi
Prefectural Art Museum).
Exhibited at “Roppongi Crossing 2007: Future Beats in Japanese Contemporary Art Exhibition” at Mori Art Museum (Tokyo).
“Yoshio Yoshimura Exhibition – The world of Flowers drawn with colored pencils” held at Kami City Art Museum (Kochi).
2008 “Yoshio Yoshimura Exhibition – The world of Flowers drawn with colored pencils” held at Shunan City Folk Art Museum (Yamaguchi), and Hatsukaichi Art Gallery (Hiroshima).

“Yoshio Yoshimura Exhibition – I, who continuously transcribe the days with
a sharpened pencil” held at Yamaguchi Prefectural Art Museum.
2011 Stayed a year at the Cité internationale des arts, Paris, France.
2012 Exhibited at Art Fair Tokyo 2012 (Tokyo).
2013 “Yoshio Yoshimura Exhibition – Higan and Daily Life depicted with Colored
Pencils” held at Kami City Art Museum.
“Yoshio Yoshimura Exhibition – Hyper-Detailed Art drawn with Colored Pencils” held at Setouchi City Art Museum (Okayama).
Passed away on December 6th due to interstitial pneumonia.
