1927 Born in Oita City (former Saganoseki Town), Oita Prefecture (real name: Akira)
1949 Selected for the Shinseisaku Exhibition
1953 Awarded the Outstanding Artist Prize at the Jiyu Bijutsuka Kyokai Exhibition ('56, '57 Honorable Mention)
Became acquainted with Wasaburo Itozono, Jiro Oyamada, Shuzo Takiguchi, and others around this time.
1958 Promoted to a member of the Jiyu Bijutsu Kyokai (Association of Liberal Arts)
1962 Exhibited at the Yasui Prize Exhibition
Exhibited at the Contemporary Art Exhibition of Japan
1964 Withdrew from the Jiyu Bijutsu Kyokai with Saburo Aso, Wasaburo Itozono, Yoshio Mori, and others, and participated in the founding of the Shutai Bijutsu Kyokai
1965 Held a solo exhibition at Osaka Form Gallery
1967 Held “20 Years of Ryo Hirano” exhibition at Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art
Self-selected exhibitions at Yawata Art Museum and Fukuoka Form Gallery
Solo exhibition at Osaka Form Gallery (held annually thereafter)
1969 Participated in the Contemporary Art Exhibition of Japan
1975 Withdrew from the Shutai Bijutsu Kyokai. Continues to show works mainly in solo exhibitions as an independent artist.

1978 Traveled to Europe, visiting Switzerland, Italy, Holland, Eastern Europe, etc.
