10 Years After His Passing
Yoshio Yoshimura Exhibition

10:00am-6:00pm (Open every day during the event)
Venue MIZOE ART GALLERY TOKYO

Happy New Year to all. We look forward to your continued good will in the coming year.

Yoshio Yoshimura attracted much attention in the world of contemporary art after winning the Grand Prize at the Yamaguchi Prefectural Art Exhibition in 2007. However, just as his future success was being anticipated, he suddenly passed away at the age of 63. I still wonder what kind of future would have awaited him and Mizoe Art Gallery, had Mr. Yoshimura still been alive.

The traveling exhibition "Yoshio Yoshimura: Beyond Super Realism", which began in November 2018 at Tokyo Station Gallery, was originally planned to exhibit at 4 venues, but eventually reached 11, making it an unusually long run as it continuously impressed.

Words such as “realism”, “hyper-realism”, “miniature painting”, and “superlative-technique” all seem inadequate, if not clichd, when it comes to describing Yoshio Yoshimura's works and skill, which go beyond what we imagine possible.

This exhibition will feature small colored-pencil drawings of flowers alongside a series of self-portraits on newspapers drawn in Paris, as well as prints and other works from his early years. We sincerely look forward to seeing you at the gallery.
