┃About ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA (AFAF)

It is a festival of contemporary art held in Fukuoka. In 2018, 37 galleries leading contemporary art both
inside and outside Japan converged to transform the guest rooms of Hotel Okura Fukuoka into artistic
space. The paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs and installation artworks selected by gallerist
were gathered in one place. The fifth fair is planned to be held in the beginning of September 2019.
In Japan, we tend to experience art only by looking at. Although in Hakata Hankyu, customers are
increasing who purchase paintings and craftworks to enjoy art in everyday life. We often hear terms
such as "the age of individualism" and " complex society" these days. It is difficult to reach the correct
answer and it is not necessarily only one. Living in such era requires us to know what we want to do and
what we should do. One way to find the answer can be decision-making based on intuition and
sensibility, or in other words, your aesthetic sense.
This time, we exhibit and sell artworks by collaborating with "ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA 2018", the
largest gallery show in Kyushu. Those artworks were carefully selected by 12 galleries which
participated in ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA 2018 and leading contemporary art world both inside and
outside Japan. We introduce more than 30 contemporary artworks including paintings, 3 dimensional
works, and engravings ranging from works by spirited young artists to ones by artists representing
Kyushu. We hope this event becomes an opportunity for you to get more familiar with art, to take
pleasure in appreciating art, and to experience the abundance of everyday life with which art blends in.
Please enjoy the "Sign" of art which is spreading rapidly in recent years.
