Gyoji Nomiyama, who passed away one year ago on June 22, had produced a wide variety of print works spanning over 40 years. The MMG lithography print studio, which was opened in Tokyo by Yusaku Masuda, whom he met in Paris; the printmaking laboratory of the Tokyo National University of the Arts, where he learned copperplate printing from Tetsuro Komai; and the silkscreen studio of Galerie Mukai, Inc. Fascinated by the effects produced through various techniques and materials that differ from oil painting, and by the collaboration with craftsmen, he spent days frequenting these printmaking studios. Thus were born the playful print works of Gyoji Nomiyama, which you will hopefully enjoy.
