FUKUOKA

“Nude” ca. 1957

Two years have already gone by since the death of Gyoji Nimiyama. The legacy he has left behind is so substantial, it feels as though he will one day reappear out of nowhere, blessing us with that carefree smile of his. Even after the loss of their maker, his artworks continue to emit a strong energy that moves the viewer, and provide moments of realization. What was Gyoji Nomiyama trying to depict? What gave birth to his bold and free artistic senses and colors, captured in his paintings which burst with life. This exhibition will include works from each period of his journey, from his time by the coal mines after the war to his Paris era, followed by his return to Japan and up until his final years, in order to get to the heart of Gyoji Nomiyama, who continued to paint all his life, and his pursuit as an artist. Please enjoy.
