Archaeological sites and excavated ritual implements with post-Bauhaus geometric designs. Morandi’s still life paintings with blasted punk-rock music. Taking in the feel of such contradicting images, Kaoru MOCHIZUKI explores daily the lines, forms and textures created by rotating clay on the potter’s wheel, in pursuit of a simple yet powerful structure.
Having been born into a family of artists, he found his love for pottery in Okinawa and learned traditional skills in Tajimi, now creating contemporary artworks that appeal in their design. The influence of music and fashion, which absorbed him in his youth and still play a big role in his daily life, can be observed in his creations. That is not to say he takes for granted the importance of its practicality as a vessel. This will be the artist’s first solo exhibition at Mizoe Art Gallery. We hope you enjoy.
